Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This tool is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs and new businesses estimate their initial startup costs. It allows you to list various expenses, calculate a total, and leverage AI-powered features for cost suggestions and analysis to build a more comprehensive financial picture.

The core cost estimation (adding items, calculating totals) happens directly in your browser. Your individual cost items and amounts are not sent to our servers for these basic functions.

For the “AI Cost Suggestions” and “AI Cost Analysis” features, relevant information (like your business type or your list of costs and their total) is sent to the Gemini API to generate responses. This interaction is designed to be stateless for your specific detailed data beyond the scope of the request. Please refer to Google’s API terms for more details on how they handle data.

The AI-generated suggestions and analysis are intended for guidance and informational purposes only. They can help you think about common expenses or identify areas for consideration. However, they are not financial advice and may not be exhaustive or perfectly tailored to your unique business situation. Always conduct thorough research and consult with financial professionals for critical decisions.

Currently, this tool operates entirely within your web browser. There is no built-in feature to save your estimate to a server or account. If you refresh the page or close your browser, the entered data will likely be lost. You might consider manually copying the information or taking a screenshot if you need to preserve it.

If you leave the “Business Type/Industry” field blank, the “AI Cost Suggestions” feature will provide a list of common cost categories applicable to a generic new business. The “AI Cost Analysis” will also be more general as it won’t have specific industry context.

Please ensure you have a stable internet connection, as the AI features require communication with an external API (Google’s Gemini API).

This demonstration tool uses a placeholder or restricted API key for illustrative purposes. In a real-world application, a valid API key with proper setup would be required. If you are a developer, check the browser’s console (usually by pressing F12) for more specific error messages that might indicate an API key issue or network problem.
